Devoid - Lonely Eye Movement (2021)

Progressive Metal, Hard Rock, Power Metal

4/5

The second album of a French project featuring German vocalist Carsten Lizard-Schulz (Book of Reflections, Roger Staffelbach's Angel of Eden, Evidence One, Dead End Heroes, Frozen Rain, LaValle, Paradise Inc., ex-Domain, ex-Midnite Club, ex- Rik Priem's Prime) is, in my opinion, one of the most powerful works in the extensive discography of the charismatic German. The work is melodiously strong and also atmospheric. There is nothing to say about the quality of the implementation, in this regard, everything is at the highest level, after all, the album was released on the leading hard rock label Frontiers Records. And although in fact the disc is played in the style of a rather sophisticated and technical, classic progressive metal like the late Dream Theater, thanks to Carsten's vocals, harmonies in it are present not only progesterically. These are the influences of harmonies and melody of hard rock, which Carsten mainly performed, and power metal, which was also not alien to him. All these influences are surprisingly very competently and harmoniously intertwined, at the output sounding like the signature staff of Mr. Schulz, but at the same time, especially varied and advanced staff. And very strong and expressive melodiously. My compliments to the guys from Devoid and Mr. Carsten who did their best. Such goodness can be recommended to lovers of both rock and metal!
